Land Art Challenge: Week 9

When I got down to the beach yesterday I noticed that the poplar trees had tiny sticky leaves. I took one and stuck it to a rock. This seemed to work well so I made more. After playing around with them for a while I decided to peel off the leaves to see if there was an imprint. There was! I was so surprised with how beautiful some of them turned out.

Bringing Nature Into Your Home: Week 7

When I was in my twenties I began paying attention to the rhythms of the natural world. As I became more attuned to these seasonal changes I felt more connected to all life. Today I'm very grateful to live in a place where there are four very different and beautiful seasons. They each provide an endless source of joy and inspiration to me.

Setting up a Nature Table / Seasonal Table is one of the ways that we celebrate the changes that are happening around us. It also encourages us to live in harmony with those natural cycles. While this is a great activity to do with children, I would highly recommend it to anyone of any age. All you need is a small table or shelf. We often make a sign, gather items from the forest, make crafts, write poems, read books and prepare food that is in harmony with the season. Happy Spring!

Land Art Challenge: Week 8

As we were walking along the shore of Glenmore Reservoir we couldn't help but notice all the colorful catkins dangling from the poplar trees and the soft pussy willows. I gathered a few and had fun making these.

Bringing Nature Into Your Home Week: 6

Natural toys are a great way to bring nature into your home. When I'm out in the forest with my sons we are surrounded by interesting things to play with. Items that spark their imagination and lead to hours of fun. Over the years, I was inspired by many of these natural toys. Here are a few that I made.
Peaceful Place - Fairy Treehouse

Root Blocks - Building blocks made from the roots of a tree

Maple Building Blocks and Doll

Winter Treehouse - Dolls drinking hot chocolate beside the fire

 Math Game

Rainbow Blocks

Winter Treehouse with Snow Crystals

Land Art Challenge: Week 6 & 7

I've been down with a cold for about a week and yesterday was my first chance to get out and make some land art. It felt so good to be out there again. Here's what I made.
